DOVER DMC Modernization Q & A

Q. Why wasn’t I informed earlier?

A. Used boards and reliable repairs have been needed to sustain the lack of new board availability until recently. Many repairs are still being made, however the lead time for the board repairs is increasing and, in some cases, repairs are not effective.

Q.  If we lose a board today, how long will it take to replace or repair?

A. Repairs can take up to 1 month.

Q.  What is the worst-case scenario?

A. We know of multiple incidents, including incidents whereby Thyssen- Krupp installed and currently maintains the elevators, that have stretched to 8 months without an elevator.

Q.  Why would NYC Department of Buildings code requirements affect my job?

A.. Due to a retroactive code requirement that has a 2027 deadline, the supply chain and local contractors will be strained to get all the work done by the deadline. If the past is any indication of the future, the suppliers will require more time to deliver finished goods and prices will increase along with demand. Contractors will increase pricing and lead times will increase as a result.

Q.  Will our new equipment become obsolete?

A. Yes. Development of new and improved software, hardware and components will make legacy equipment obsolete at some point. We cannot predict when this will happen in the future. All industries are affected by shorter cycle times, and it is up to the OEM to decide how much inventory to carry for future repairs and replacements as they roll out the latest and greatest. The smartest move is to order critical replacements at the time of ordering the new controller.

Q.  Is there other work required to complete the elevator upgrade?

A. There can be additional work required. The local building department has the final say on the scope of work. Such additional work can include electrical, HVAC, fire alarm system.

Q.  Do you offer financing?

A. To qualified clients, short-term financing is available.

Q.  How much is the filing cost?

A. Filing costs vary across municipalities. The costs to file for a permit can include plan preparation, plan review/stamp by an architect or licensed P. E., expeditor fees, municipality fees. There are fees for signoffs in most municipalities as well.

Q.  Can the elevator be used while under construction?

A. No

Q.  Can you meet us after hours?

A. Yes, an onsite meeting is very informative and best when owners see the actual elevator components that will be part of the job.
